Press Release: Outdoor Activity Information Points
29/10/2004

If you see this sign, you've just found an Outdoor Activity Information Point.

A 12 month pilot study into the provision of Outdoor Activity Information Points in the Snowdonia area is under way. The idea is to provide outdoor enthusiasts visiting North West Wales with greater and more focussed access to information on outdoor activities and outdoor friendly accommodation and services in the area.

Three businesses have been selected in key locations across the region:

Café Active – Betws y Coed
Wannabe’s - Barmouth
V12 Outdoor – Llanberis

Dedicated computer terminals have been set up at the three sites, allowing members of the public to access information. Users will be able to download information from the Snowdonia-Active website, and other websites where appropriate, and print off copies if desired.

Snowdonia-Active project officer, Chris Wright explained the thinking behind the pilot study,

“This service is a natural extension and back up for the type of information (i.e. local conditions, venues and activity providers, accomodation, etc.) that customer-facing staff working in the outdoor sector already give.
Each of the businesses taking part in the study have been given a branding pack, including external signage and signs/stickers to highlight the information point. The study will be monitored on a monthly basis, via feedback reports and customer questionnaires, leading ultimately to a full project review analysing the pros and cons of the service provision.”

“Next time you get on a Sherpa bus, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for an advert promoting the Snowdonia-Active website Directory and the new Outdoor Activity Information Points. The ads will be appearing on 5 different Sherpa buses operating in the Snowdonia area over the next 12 months.”, added Chris Wright.

The study has been funded through a partnership between Snowdonia-Active, Tourism Partnership Mid Wales and Tourism Partnership North Wales.
