Festival Atmosphere for Slateman 10/05/2013

The third Snowdonia Slateman Triathlon taking place in Llanberis on Sunday May 19th will have a festival-style atmosphere. Aside from the spectacle of the 1000+ triathletes, the day will see an impressive line-up of accompanying attractions and entertainment.

They include a live music stage featuring local acts, slate splitting displays, children’s races, the Kinetix free running display team, a climbing wall, kids activities and an array of terrific outdoor cuisine, from a hog roast to pizza ovens and the famous Snowdonia Market of local food producers.

The full programme of events will see the Slateman Triathlon kick-off at 9.30 a.m. with the first of four waves of triathletes entering Llyn Padarn. From then on the day gathers momentum. The start, transition zone and finish will be at the football field adjacent to the Llanberis Community Centre - a two minute walk from the Electric Mountain Visitor Centre.

This year has seen the organisers, Always Aim High Events, recruit Seen2Help as their headline sponsor for the Slateman, where the competitors take on the gruelling demands of a 1000m swim in Llyn Padarn, the Llanberis Pass and Ogwen Valley for a challenging 51km bike leg and the slate quarries overlooking Llanberis for the final 11km trail run. A Slateman ‘sprint’ event will also take place this year with a 400m (swim), 20km (bike) and 6km (run) option. Race details and routes here.

Such is the standing of the event in the UK triathlon calendar that entries for it were sold-out almost five months ahead of the race day.

Tim Lloyd from Always Aim High Events, rightly excited about the day, said:

"We have laid on a terrific programme for people to take part in at the event this year. We feel that the Slateman is much more than a triathlon. Of course that is what brings people to Llanberis in the first place, but at Always Aim High we feel that by providing a range of attractions to see and do on the day, the whole community benefits and our reputation as a company who put on world-class events is only underlined."

Tim added: "This is in addition to perhaps the biggest story of all, which is the international TV coverage that the event will enjoy once again in 2013. This will give competitors a unique opportunity to see themselves racing on Channel 4, Eurosport and Sky Sports, all from the comfort of their own homes!"

You'll be able to watch the race on the telly on CH4 (Sunday 21st July 07.30 and 8.30 on plus 1), Eurosport and Sky Sports.

The event's brand partners are once again heavily involved. Chain Reaction Cycles will have their retail display (plus lots of prizes to give away), Kinetica and Aquasphere will be displaying their full product ranges, as well as Sports Tours International.
