N.Wales Outdoor Charter Group Co-ordinator
Following consultation and a presentation at the Outdoor North Wales Forum held in Llanwrst last February, Snowdonia-Active (S-A) has appointed Catherine Miles to the part-time post of North Wales Outdoor Charter Group Co-ordinator.
Her role will be to support the development of an environmental outdoor charter for north Wales and begin the work outlined in the Proposal for the North Wales Environmental Outdoor Charter
document. A meeting will be held in October 2012 to form a steering group.
A charter will bring the region into line with Pembrokeshire and the Brecon Beacons National Parks that already have environmental charters in place. One of the actions in the recent Snowdonia National Park Recreation Strategy 2012 – 17
was: “Introduce nationally agreed codes of conduct and/or recreation charters, to reduce areas of conflict between user groups, conservation and land managers.”
Catherine Miles is a qualified outdoor instructor and has a Master's degree in Psychology which has led her to investigate the connection humans have to nature.
Her recent project investigated how a persons’ motivation to be in the outdoors affects their well-being and environmental attitudes. Catherine is passionate about encouraging people to get into the outdoors and recognises the importance of doing so in a sustainable manner.
She is very excited about working with local organisations to develop and implement the vision of the North Wales Outdoor Charter Group.Related News Items: Outdoor Charter Group Co-ordinator (26/07/2012)
