Outdoor North Wales Forum Latest 10/02/2012

The Outdoor North Wales Forum on February 28th at the Glasdir Conference Centre in Llanwrst, will be of interest to anyone involved with the outdoor sector.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, the diverse list of organisations and businesses giving presentations, range from the Welsh Government and its statutory bodies, to innovative activity operators.

Following on from our reporting of the National Trust's Ambassador Business Scheme, Jonathan Hughes, the General Manager for the Trust in Pembrokeshire, who also takes the lead on outdoor activities for the Trust across Wales, has invited outdoor activity providers to meet with representatives of the Trust at the Forum - download letter.

Jonathan will also present the Trust's approach to managing outdoor activities on their properties across the country. This is a valuable opportunity to hear and speak to them about their plans. For more on the Ambassador Business Scheme with download link to document click here.

The Institute of Outdoor Learning (IOL) will be there along with Association of Heads of Outdoor Centres (AHOEC) members who are all working to positively address the challenges the sector faces, on topics such as the future of Adventure Licensing. With one in three local authority outdoor education centres facing closure, an online petition has been established with the aim of getting Government to debate outdoor centre closures. Visit http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/

Organised by Tourism Partnership North Wales (TPNW) the forum will be taking a look at the changing face of adventure tourism in the region and also asking What are the Outdoor Centres of Excellence Going to do for the Rest of Us? Tracey Evans from the Outdoor Partnership will be providing an update on their work and the employment opportunities they've facilitated in the outdoors. For a detailed look at the full programme go to www.outdoornorthwalesforum.co.uk

The event is free to attend but please register your interest using the following details: register@outdoornorthwalesforum.co.uk or by calling 01758 760652. So far 140 people have registered so don't deliberate too long.

A similar event will be taking place in South Wales at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on March 7th. Details here.
