Backcountry Snow and Safety Talk
07/11/2011

Aimed at skiers and winter mountaineers, International Guide and off-piste Jedi,
Nigel Shepherd, is running a transceiver demo and seminar on avalanche awareness to help you enjoy the 'white stuff' more safely this winter.
Every winter in the European Alps more than 75 skiers and climbers lose their lives in avalanche incidents. Tragic though this is more than 50% of these deaths may have been avoidable.
Nigel said: "Skiing and mountaineering in and among snow covered mountains carries inherent risks of unstable conditions and to travel safely requires sound judgment based on experience and knowledge."
Nigel has no shortage of such experience with more than thirty years of guiding around the world behind him. He'll be drawing on these adventures and his own exploits to give you an insight into the intricacies of snow stability evaluation and safer travel on snow.
The evening at Caban Café on
Wednesday November 23rd will be split into two sections:
- From 17.45 - 19.00 Nigel will be running a transceiver demo in the grounds of the Caban café.
- Snow safety talk from 19.30 - 21.00 where you'll also have the opportunity to quiz Nigel about equipment choice including being able to find out what are this year's must have skis.
Tickets will cost £5.00 for the evening and includes a glass of vin chaud and apres seminar tapas. A collection will be made on the night for
Disability Snowsport UK.
Places on the demo are limited and booking is required. To book or for more info email
