Free Outdoor Workshops
For its final meeting of the year, BMC Cymru traditionally organises a series of events around it. Once again, there are a number of free workshops for people who plan on coming to the meeting at Plas y Brenin (i.e. attendance at the meeting is obligatory for anyone taking up the opportunity of a free workshop).
The choice on December 5th includes:Coaching Masterclass (10.00 a.m.)
Mark Reeves is one of North Wales’ leading climbing coaches and currently involved in researching the psychological aspect of climbing performance. Mark holds an MIA and regularly works at Plas y BreninNavigation and Environment (1.00 p.m.)
A walk with Elfyn Jones, BMC Access and Conservation Officer for Wales – Elfyn, a former National Park Warden and National Trust Property Manager will be passing on some navigation top tips and introducing you to the amazing upland environment of North Wales.Ropework and Improvised Rescue for Climbers (1.00 p.m.)
Let veteran guru Mountain Guide Mal Creasy and MIC Andy Newton teach you enough fancy rope work to avoid getting yourself into trouble and help you to get out of it if you do.Bolting Workshop (1.00 p.m.)
Chris Parkin, bolting guru, mountain guide and rope access supremo will run a bolting workshop ably supported by BMC Technical Officer Dan Middleton.All the Latest Gear (1.00 p.m.)
Rob and Pete from Joe Brown’s supported by DMM will demonstrate and explain what’s what with all the latest new fangled gear, from belay plates to cams.Emergency Ropework for Mountain Walkers (1.00 p.m.) MLTW Officer
, Bryn Williams, will clearly show you the ropes so that you don't get in a tangle when a 'cool head' matters most. Bryn has run his own business, Dragon Mountain Skills, for the last seven years. He will also be able to answer any questions you have about the Mountain Leader Schemes.

The open forum meeting including a short AGM takes place at 5.00 p.m. with a free meal in the Plas y Brenin bar. Barbara Jones from the Countryside Council for Wales will give a short talk about the issues and possible management solutions for delicate upland heaths.
The day is rounded off with the Grand No Prize Quiz
from quiz legends Dr Noel Craine and big George Smith and a free showing of Birdman of the Karakoram
at 8.00 p.m. Birdman focuses on one of the worlds most respected high altitude paraglider pilots, John Silvester, who lives tucked away on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. Filmed by prize winning local cameraman, Alun Hughes, the centre piece of the film is a dizzying journey through Himalayan skies on a tandem flight around Shishpare Peak (7619m) - the first time this route has ever been flown by a paraglider - edge of your seat stuff.
For BMC members there will be free use of the PyB climbing wall all day - just show your membership card at PyB reception and sign-in.
