New MLTW Officer 23/07/2009

Bryn Williams has been appointed as the new Mountain Leader Training Wales (MLTW) National Development Officer. It is a part-time (0.7) post that will start in September and is based at the MLTW Siabod Cottage offices, Capel Curig.

Bryn has plenty of experience of training potential Mountain Leaders through running his own business, Dragon Mountain Skills, for the last seven years. He holds the Mountaineering Instructor Award (MIA), Winter Mountain Leader Award ML(W) and undertaken his Mountaineering Instructor Certificate (MIC) training. In addition, he is on the committee of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) and a member of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team.

Bryn commented that: "He hopes to encourage more Welsh speaking hill walkers and rock climbers into the mountain leadership career, as Welsh instructors only account for a small proportion of the industry."

He added: "I am very pleased to soon be starting work with the MLTW. It has been a job that I have had an interest in for a number of years and now I finally have the opportunity to help develop the Mountain Leadership Awards in Wales."

MLTW (funded by the Sports Council for Wales) administers four training schemes for experienced adults who wish to lead walking groups in moorland and mountain terrain or rock climbing groups on single pitch crags and climbing walls. If you are interested in gaining nationally recognised qualifications to become a mountain leader or a rock climbing leader then contact MLTW.
