The 36th International Snowdon Race
on July 23rd will have a greater profile than previously since it has been selected as a trial event in the 2011 Skyrunner World Series
- 16 races in 12 countries across four continents.
Certified by the ISF as a 'Skyrunning Race', the International Snowdon Race is 16 km long with 1025m elevation gain from the start (60m) by Llyn Padarn (Llanberis) to Snowdon's summit at 1,085m.
This year has been difficult for the organisers since the race has had to be limited to 500 runners. Race organiser Stephen Edwards, said: "The reasons for this are numerous, but at the heart of this is a responsibility to the National Park, the safety of the runners and walkers on the mountain during race-day and a respect for the mountain environment."
He added: "The race could have been filled three times over with the entries we received in the first two weeks of May alone, so as you can see we have been in a very difficult and unprecedented situation."Junior race info
