Among the premiere screenings, Best of Kendal films, lectures and fringe events that make-up
LLAMFF, two of the events attracting a good deal of attention are very much home-grown.
George Smith's UpsideDown Wales film gets its first ever showing on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. and takes a sideways look at the obsessive nature behind climbing overhanging rock. It promises to be very amusing with a wide ranging appeal. For more information about the film and a short interview with the man himself go to
DMM.
Also showing on Saturday evening is the rediscovered, thanks to Llanberis resident Mike Raine, Slate of the Art audio visual by the late Paul Williams, which magnificently captures that rich period of climbing history during the eighties slate boom. Any young climbers watching will find it hard to believe that grown men wore pink and white striped lycra leggings back then. And that is without mentioning the hair-cuts or lack of them. Mike sums it all up nicely
here.
