This weekend Llanberis once again welcomes the world famous Snowdon Mountain Race, now in its 31st year.
Runners from around the world gather to be the first to reach the iconic summit and safely make it back to the valley floor.
Last year the race was won by Andi Jones, the 27 year old international in a blistering 1:07:24, in one of the highlights of the European mountain racing calendar.
The event organisers are at pains to insist that the race is no walk in the park, and that contestants must be very careful about how hard they push themselves. Runners must be prepared for the gruelling ascent and be sure of their footing on the often punishing descent, every year sees its fair share of cuts and bruises from over-ambitious runners!
Nevertheless brave runners return year on year so obviously relish the challenge.
For anyone who would like to go and watch the race, it begins at 2pm on Saturday 28th in Llanberis, with a carnival atmosphere! The entry list for this years race filled up months ago as usual, so if you want to compete next year you’ll have to act fast. S4C will be broadcasting the highlights of the race on Sunday 29 July at 9pm for all those unlucky enough to be unable to make it.
