Press Release: Newidiem win ‘Value of the Sector’ research work
07/10/2003

In May 2003 Snowdonia-Active produced a research proposal framework document:

“Adventure Tourism Sector in North West Wales – The Value of the Sector”.

The proposal was shown to a number of potentially interested agencies over the summer months and the following financial commitments were recieved:

Skills Active Wales - £7K

Welsh Canoeing Association - £2.5K

Snowdonia-Active has also committed £15K, giving an overall figure of £24.5K to finance the research work.

The contract was put out for tender in August and following an interview based selection process, the contract was awarded to the Cardiff based consultancy company, Newidiem. Newidiem gave an excellent presentation, demonstrating their extensive research experience and understanding of the research proposal.

Clearly this vital piece of work will be of great benefit to the outdoor sector in Snowdonia. Not only will it provide a platform for future developments, but it is also likely to have a strong influence on the policies of all agencies with an interest in the area: the Local Authorities (Gwynedd, Môn and Conwy), the National Park Authority, The Countryside Council for Wales, the National Trust, the Forestry Commission and the Welsh Assembly.

The research work will take place over the October – December 2003 period with the final document due for publication in January 2004.
