Llanberis Sets the Stage for Tour of Britain 29/08/2013

For the first time, the Tour of Britain, the UK's largest professional cycle race, will be visiting Gwynedd and one of its stages will be finishing in Llanberis. The 2013 Tour comprises of eight stages over the 15th - 22nd September, covering a total distance of 1045 kilometres and concluding in London.

Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish from Team Sky, managed by Sir David Brailsford from Deiniolen, will be taking part. A map showing the route for all eight stages can be seen here.  

Preparations for the event are well underway in Llanberis and the flags are already out along the High Street. Festivities will start in the village around the same time the race starts in Hanley Stoke-on-Trent at 10.45 a.m. and continue throughout the day ahead of the riders estimated arrival between 15.02 - 15:56 p.m.

After crossing north Wales via Wrexham, Denbigh, Llanwrst and Capel Curig, stage 4 reaches Llanberis with riders tackling the Skoda King of the Mountains climb of Pen-y-Pass as the sting in the tail. Please Note Road Closures

The Llanberis by-pass (A4086) will be closed to all traffic from 02.00 a.m. until 19.00 p.m. at the latest on September 18th and there will also be a temporary clearway along the whole length of the High Street - no parking on the High Street during this time to ensure free flow of traffic during closure of by-pass road. There will be limited parking spaces in Llanberis and a park and ride system has been organised from just outside the village at Glyn Rhonwy to Llanberis for a £5.00 charge.
